In an era of Hinge dates, DoorDash, and Prime, Chicago’s up-and-coming Widemouth are walking the path laid down by a century of legendary acts before them. Their upcoming debut album, No Gasoline, embraces Midwest beginnings and captures the essence of what it means to be a band. The 13-song release was recorded live in a rural Indiana barn-turned-studio, and presents the group at a critical stage in their blossoming career. No Gasoline is the unfiltered moment they found their collective voice.

In the summer of 2023, singer/songwriter Makena lei Carnahan posted a paper flyer at her college looking for musicians and quickly caught the attention of singer/songwriter Jamie Eder, drummer Lily Mitchell, and bassist Levi Saltzman. What started with that piece of paper soon became a synchronistic songwriting partnership formed around Mak’s freewheeling artistic upbringing, Jamie’s improvised jazz background, and their shared love of modern indie rock. Their songs were elevated to new levels with contributions by Lily and Levi, and the group’s 2024 EP Well showcased that, while garnering praise from Rolling Stone.

Building on the success of Well and countless live shows, 2026 is the year of Widemouth. No Gasoline, co-produced by Jack Henry (Friko, Free Range, Hemlock) and Sam Genualdi, caught the attention of Urban Scandal Records (Curls [ft. Christopher Owens], Renny Conti, The Band Ice Cream) and the two teamed up to deliver the band’s debut full-length to the masses. With a growing national audience, a string of packed club shows, and new music on the way, Widemouth is poised for a breakout year on and off the stage.
